Wild Mother Provisions

Wild Mother Provisions is a feminist food company specializing in artisanal beer vinegar based out of Petty Harbour, Newfoundland.

A wild mother is collected from natural yeasts in the air and, with the help of some oxygen, when added to wine, cider or beer, it becomes vinegar.

Mothers, wild or not, have always been associated with nature and the beginning of life. And have always been the ones who sustained us with food.

Our beer vinegar or alegar is inspired by the age-old practice of using alegar as a key ingredient in recipes before wine vinegar became the standard. It’s a vinegar that is complex but balanced, mild but full flavoured … and black!

So that’s who we are. A little sweet and a little sour. Like wild mothers everywhere.

Janet Harron is the maker behind Wild Mother Provisions. She is a communicator/event organizer by day, proud mother, patient wife, compulsive reader, friend to many and identifies as neurodiverse (ADHD). She lives in a wild place – the island of Newfoundland, the most easterly point of North America and the 16th largest island in the world.
